Check out the latest on the Affected Goodman, Mattoon, and Rice Lake Mills...
The Besse Forest Products Group closed three Wisconsin hardwood lumber mills in August after the Hoffmann Family of Companies acquired Besse earlier this year.
The mills are in Goodman, Mattoon, and Rice Lake. The Carpenters Union filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Justice about the closing relative to the Wisconsin Business Closings Act.
The company wrote the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development stating “After exploring restructuring alternatives, we have determined that Wisconsin Veneer and Plywood will cease operations”, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Besse also has two locations in Michigan.
Besse describes itself as a “leading manufacturer of high-quality Northern hardwood veneer, lumber, and specialty plywood” for a variety of product uses.
The Hoffmann Group of companies owns a diverse portfolio of businesses. It is based in Naples, Florida.
