Carl Theiler: A Legacy of Leadership, Family, and Forests

Carl F. Theiler Obituary

Carl Theiler, who led the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association until his retirement in 1997, passed away on January 2. His death followed a brief illness, according to his obituary in the Tomahawk Leader, the paper in his lifelong hometown of Tomahawk, Wisconsin.

Theiler led the association when it was the Timber Producers Association of Michigan and Wisconsin prior to its name change. Earlier he served in the U.S. Army and worked for the Wisconsin DNR. He then worked in the logging and real estate world and served as Lincoln County’s first zoning administrator in 1968. “Carl lived a full and blessed life focused on the things that were most important to him—family, friends, the woods, Tomahawk, and Marquette basketball”, his obituary says.

Services will be held on Friday, Jan 10, 2025 at 3 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, Carl’s obituary suggested “You share a beer and a story with friends and family. If you’re interested in doing more, the family suggests donations to the Ronald McDonald House, the Maryknoll Sisters, Our Sisters’ House, or the Tyler Kahle Memorial Field (both local organizations) all causes that were close to Carl’s heart.”
