The European Union has offered to delay establishing new regulations that would require stringent origin of wood identification measures for products being imported to E.U. countries from the forest to final products by one year to December 30, 2025, after receiving significant pushback from other countries.

A statement from the E.U. said, “Several global partners have repeatedly expressed concerns about their state of preparedness, most recently during the United Nations General Assembly week in New York”.

The E.U. has also issued “additional guidance documents” to assist organizations that sell wood and related materials to European countries, according to the statement.

The rules would impact Northern hardwood exports from the U.S. to E.U. countries when they go into effect.
