High Fire Danger Statewide: Don't Spark A Wildfire

Fire danger is high across Wisconsin due to gusty winds and dry vegetation, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) needs your help in preventing wildfires.

In the past seven days alone, there have been 70 wildfires across Wisconsin, with 27 of them starting because of improper equipment use (things like unsecured trailer chains, mowing, recreational vehicles, tractors, etc.). Don’t let recent light rainfall lull you into complacency. It’s still dry and we’re seeing high and very high fire across the entire state.

The majority of equipment fires are caused by sparks or hot exhaust systems from logging, farming equipment and off-road recreational vehicles.

You can help prevent wildfires in Wisconsin by:

• Operating farming or logging equipment early in the morning or in the evening when fire conditions are less risky
• Securing dragging parts and trailer chains
• Avoiding mowing and operating vehicles on dry grass
• Checking tire pressure for exposed rims
• Maintaining brakes to prevent metal-to-metal contact
