Minnesota Takes Flight with New Sustainable Aviation Fuel Supply Chain Initiative
Federal Grant Powers Minnesota's Aviation Fuel Sustainability
A partnership of major Minnesota institutions including Delta Airlines, energy company Xcel Energy, and Ecolab announced a series of developments to establish a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply chain in the state.
The development, announced by Greater MSP, includes steps toward creating an SAF blending facility with a capacity of up to 30 million gallons of neat SAF. Fuel blended from jet fuel and SAF to specifications and regulatory requirements can be delivered to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) by an existing pipeline.
The effort also has received a $16.8 million federal grant to convert an existing ethanol plant in Luverne, Minnesota to an alcohol-to-jet fuel facility to help develop material for an SAF value chain in the state.
